Chess Series

My art series is inspired by the intricacies of traditional miniature art, reshaped with a contemporary interpretation. The detailed craftsmanship and linear simplicity of miniature art infuse my works with the aesthetic richness of the past while embracing the modern perspective of today. In this series, I aim to depict the conflicts faced by individuals and societies, centering on the metaphor of chess. The chessboard functions as a battleground of life, full of strategic moves. In my works, I reinterpret each chess piece as a figurative representation. Particularly, pawn figures symbolize the individual's role and universal struggles in life. These pawns are not tied to any specific historical period but rather reflect a blend of different cultures and historical conflicts. My goal is to convey the shared, universal emotional and intellectual themes of being human. The black and white figures in my works symbolize contrasts and balance, while the black background represents an unknown universe or an introspective journey. Gold details act as a nod to traditional miniature art while drawing attention to the narrative of the artwork. The figurative storytelling in my pieces is enriched by blending traditional motifs with a contemporary approach. In this series, I wanted to highlight the similarities between the moves in a chess game and the strategic decisions in an individual’s life. The horse figure represents the courage to go beyond boundaries, while the rabbit symbolizes intuition, the search for freedom, and quick decision-making. Through spiral forms, I explored the concepts of death and transformation. The spiral emphasizes that death is not an end but a part of transformation. I drew inspiration for this series from the history of chess and the Persian epic "Shahnameh." Additionally, I created compositions that depict the conflicts and strategic maneuvers of two opposing groups, inspired by a film. For example, in my piece “Trojan Horse,” I referenced the Trojan War and represented the chess strategy of luring the opponent through a narrative. In “Chasing White Rabbit,” I expressed power through the horse figure and the pursuit of freedom and hope through the rabbit figure. This art series examines the strategic moves, pursuit of freedom, and risks taken in an individual's life. The chessboard offers a metaphorical space filled with both limitations and possibilities. These works, which combine the meticulousness of traditional miniature art with a contemporary figurative storytelling approach, aim to reflect the universal human experience and inner journey.
